
Curt entered the elevator industry in 1970 in Memphis, Tennessee, Local 30 as a probationary helper with Dover Elevator Company. When work slowed Curt went to work for Haughton Elevator Company until Dover requested him back. The lockout of March 30, 1972 interrupted Curt's career and lasted until July 8, 1972. At the conclusion of the lockout Curt returned to Dover Elevator Company.
Curt was sworn into the membership of Local 30 in 1972. He passed the Mechanics Exam in 1982. The first elected position in Local 30 that Curt held was that of Warden, then Recording Secretary and Executive Board member. He served as Executive Board Chairman for three terms. Curt's field career was cut short by an on the job accident in January of 1990. He returned to work thirteen months later.
Curt was elected Business Representative of Local 30, Memphis, Tennessee in January of 1991. He served in that position until February of 2000. During that period he also served on the IUEC Jurisdiction Committee, the 1991 IUEC General Convention Resolutions Committee and the 1996 IUEC General Convention Education Committee. He was appointed as a Trustee of the Health Benefit Plan Board by General President Sullivan in 1999 and served in that capacity until April 2000. Curt joined the Elevator Industry Work Preservation Fund as an Area Coordinator on May 1,2000. Curt is an OSHA approved instructor for the OSHA 10-Hour Safety Course.
Curt's latest accomplishment is to have obtained his OSHA 500 Master Instructor status.
