
Michael Morand
NATIONAL COORDINATOR
Michael D. “Mike” Morand started his career with the International Union of Elevator Constructors (IUEC) Local 35 Albany/Utica NY in 1988 where he was hired by Bay State Elevator Company as a construction helper installing Hydraulic and Traction elevators. In 1992 Mike completed the National Elevator Industry Educational Program (NEIEP) and passed the Mechanics exam. He then went to work for Mid State Elevator Company, Elevator Sales and Service Incorporated and Otis Elevator Company, where he worked as a mechanic in the Modernization, Repair and Maintenance departments.
In 1997 while working as a maintenance route mechanic, Mike was elected President of IUEC Local 35 and also served as the local Executive Board Chairman. In 2001 he was elected Business Manager for his local. Mike also served on the Resolutions committee at the 27th IUEC General Convention as an elected delegate and on the By-Laws committee at the 28th Convention.
During his tenure as Business Manager, Mike was a registered NEIEP Instructor, Joint Apprenticeship Committee (JAC) Chairman, Local Administrator and Certifying Official for the G.I. Bill, a member of the NYS Building Trades, NYS AFL-CIO, Capital Region Building and Construction Trades Council, Mechanical Allied Crafts Council Vice President and the Capital District Area Labor Federation.
Mike is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers “ASME” and is certified as a Qualified Elevator Inspector (QEI). Mike sits on the board of several active committees. He is a member on the ASME Maintenance Repair and Replacement committee and on the American National Standards Institute / American Society of Safety Engineers “ANSI/ASSE” A10.4 and A10.5 committees. He also sits on the ASME QEI-1 committee, ASME A17 Inspections Committee and the ASME New Technology committee as an alternate.
