QUESTION: How did the Elevator Industry Work Preservation Fund (EIWPF) receive their Qualified Elevator Inspector (QEI) accreditation?

ANSWER: The EIWPF received accreditation from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) to certify QEI (Qualified Elevator Inspectors and Inspection Supervisors) on February 9, 2005.

QUESTION:: When are EIWPF's QEI " Certification", "Recertification" and "Continuing Education" classes available?

ANSWER: This information can be found on the EIWPF website at (www.eiwpf.org) via the “EIWPF QEI Program” button. Once you have selected the QEI button, the complete QEI menu will be displayed. From this menu, you will next select the "Scheduled QEI Classes".

The five-day QEI certification program, culminating with the QEI Assessment Examination will display on the Schedule Of Classes with a description of CERTIFICATION.

The one-day QEI Continuing Education program will display on the Schedule Of Classes with a description of CONTINUING EDUCATION.

The EIWPF QEI RECERTIFICATION is not in an actual classroom venue. Instead, it takes place online and the student who is recertifying does so via an online Recertification Exam when they choose to do so and must complete the exam prior to the expiration date of their current QEI credentials.

If you have any questions regarding this or any other part of the EIWPF QEI program, please do not hesitate to call us at (888) 511-3113 ext. #5.

QUESTION:: How do I take the Online QEI Recertification Exam?

ANSWER: Before you can begin the Online QEI Recertification Exam, you MUST first submit a QEI Recertification Application.

You can submit this application electronically using the "Apply Online" menu option on the QEI PROGRAM area of the Work Preservation website at www.eiwpf.org.

Once you have submitted your Online Application you will receive additional instructions on the screen and via your email system, as to how you are to use your email address and Social Security Number to regain secure access to the Online Recertification exam.

You will be prompted for this secure login information after you choose the ONLINE RECERTIFICATION menu option on the QEI PROGRAM area of the Work Preservation website at www.eiwpf.org.

QUESTION:: Where can I get an application for the EIWPF-QEI Program?

ANSWER: There are three ways to apply. You may apply online, by following the instructions found on the EIWPF website (www.eiwpf.org) via the “EIWPF QEI Program” button. You can choose to download a PDF copy of the application and forward it back to our office. You may also apply via a call to the EIWPF offices between 8:00 AM and 5:00PM EST.

The phone call will provide for a paper application to be sent directly to you. If at all possible, we prefer you use the online application.

The number to call for inquiries regarding QEI is (888) 511-3113 ext. #5.

QUESTION: How much does it cost to certify or recertify through the Program?

ANSWER: The cost of the EIWPF QEI course for IUEC bargaining unit members, retirees, and contractors signatory to the IUEC Agreements is $999 for Certification and $100 for Recertification. All non-signatory applicants applying shall be charged the rate of $1295 for Certification and $150 for Recertification. (Non-signatory applicants must meet our course criteria.) Lodging, breakfast, and lunch, along with transportation each class day from the hotel to the training facility are included in these rates.

QUESTION: How long will the course take?

ANSWER:The course is one week long. Three and a half days of review, and one and a half days are allowed for the assessment exam. The remaining part of the fifth day will be dedicated to issuance of ID, certificates and related paper work. You should allow for a Sunday arrival as we start promptly at 8:00 AM on Monday (that is unless you happen to live in the area that the course is presented in) and departure should be scheduled after 5:00 PM on Friday.

QUESTION: How long from the time I submit my application will it be before I may attend a class?

ANSWER: This will vary. Once we receive your application, we must verify your industry requirements, i.e. time in the industry, successful completion of the NEIEP Program and passing the mechanics exam or equivalent and a high school diploma or GED. This normally takes a week to ten days. Once that is accomplished, you will receive a letter of acceptance along with a packet discussing the code documents you will need to participate and suggested places to purchase them, a DVD and Study Guide to help prepare you for the course along with other useful information and available class dates. If there is a seat open, we like to allow at least six weeks from the time you receive your acceptance packet until you come to class to allow sufficient time to purchase the code documents needed and preparation time for the class.

QUESTION: I am already QEI certified by an ASME QEI-1 accredited organization.  Can I move my certification over to you guys?

ANSWER: As long as you hold a current certificate e.g. have not allowed it to lapse or have been revoked, you will be eligible to recertify through the EIWPF.

QUESTION: When and where can I find available class dates?

ANSWER:We will post tentative class dates on our website (www.eiwpf.org ). We also intend to put this information in the IUEC Journal.

QUESTION:: Do you have workshops to assist in maintenance of certification?

ANSWER: Yes, and here again, we will post location, dates, times and cost on our website (www.eiwpf.org) as they become available.
