Timothy R. Smith



Brother Smith (Tim) began his career in the Elevator Industry in December of 1969 as a member of Local 127 out of Jackson, Mississippi. He started in Construction with the Otis Elevator Company.

In 1972 Tim moved to Tampa, Florida and deposited his card at Local 74. Tim passed the NEIEP Mechanic's exam in 1983. He worked for US Elevator in Construction and Maintenance until 1987. Tim then returned to work with Otis Elevator Company in 1987 performing Construction and Maintenance.

Tim's ability to make a difference in our industry and his strong leadership qualities were obvious to the membership body represented by IUEC Local 74 in Tampa, Florida. After serving on the Local's Executive Board for four years, Vice President for three years and President for another three years, the body elected him as their next Business Representative in 1992.

Tim was elected as the Eighth Vice President of the IUEC in 1996 at the IUEC's 27th General Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada. In November 1999 General President Edward Sullivan appointed Tim as an Organizer concentrating primarily on the southeastern United States. General President Dana Brigham appointed Tim as a Regional Director in August of 2000.

In April 2001, Tim was appointed as a Trustee of the Elevator Industry Work Preservation Fund.

Brother Tim Smith was unanimously elected to the position of Assistant General President at the Twenty-Ninth General Convention in Kona, HI in September of 2006.
