Michael D. “Mike” Morand started his career with the International Union of Elevator Constructors (IUEC) Local 35 Albany/Utica NY where he started working for Bay State Elevator Company as a construction helper installing Hydraulic and Traction elevators. Mike completed the National Elevator Industry Educational Program (NEIEP) and passed the Mechanics exam. Over the years Mike worked for Mid-State Elevator Company, Elevator Sales and Service Incorporated and Otis Elevator Company, where he worked as a mechanic in the Modernization, Repair and Maintenance departments.
In 1997 Mike was elected President of IUEC Local 35 and served as the local Executive Board Chairman. In 2001 Mike was elected IUEC Local 35 Business Manager. Mike served as an elected delegate on the Resolutions Committee at the 27th IUEC General Convention and on the Constitution and By-Laws committee at the 28th General Convention.
During his tenure as Business Manager, Mike was a registered NEIEP Instructor, Joint Apprenticeship Committee (JAC) Chairman, Local Administrator and Certifying Official for the G.I. Bill. Mike was a member of the NYS Building Trades, NYS AFL-CIO, Capital Region Building and Construction Trades Council, Mechanical Allied Crafts Council Vice President and a member of the Capital District Area Labor Federation.
Mike started with the Elevator Industry Work Preservation Fund (EIWPF) in 2009 and is a Certified Elevator Inspector (CEI) meeting the qualifications of the ASME QEI-1 Standard.
Mike is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers “ASME” and the American Society of Safety Professionals “ASSP” where he sits on the board of several active committees.
Mike is a member of the ANSI A10 Construction Safety committee, Chairman of the ANSI/ASSP A10.4 Safety Requirements for Personnel Hoists and Employee Elevators on Construction and Demolition Sites, Chairman of the ANSI/ASSP A10.5 Safety Requirements for Material Hoists, Vice Chairman of the ASME QEI-1 Standard for the Qualification of Elevator Inspectors, Chairman of ASME A17.2 Guide for Inspection of Elevator, Escalators and Moving Walks, Member of ASME A17.1 Maintenance Repair and Replacement, Member of ASME A17.3 Safety Code for Existing Elevators and Escalators.
Mike is currently the Program Administrator of the Qualified Elevator Inspector Training Fund (QEITF).
