Bruce is a 4th generation union worker, his maternal great-grandfather & grandfather were UMWA coal miners in West Alabama, paternal grandfather was a Long-Haul Teamster and his father was a Millwright at the Ensley, AL United States Steel mill.
He began his career in the Elevator Industry in 1990 as an Elevator Constructor Helper with Dover Elevator Company. He completed the NEIEP Program, passed the Mechanics Exam in November 2002 and passed the QEITF Inspector training in 2019.
During his 25 years in the field, he worked 10 years of construction, 4 years of team repairs and 11 years in maintenance where he worked as a Local Representative in the Tuscaloosa, Alabama area for Otis Elevator.
He began his 22 years of serving Local 24 in 2003 and held multiple positions such as Warden, Trustee, President and Treasurer. He was elected as a delegate to the International Union of Elevator Constructors National Conventions in: 2006, 2011, 2016 and 2021. In 2015 he was elected as Business Manager of Local 24 where he served for 9 years. During that time, he was also a Delegate to the Central Alabama Building Trades, the Local 24 Code Liaison, served as Chairman and Co-Chairman of the Local 24 Joint Apprenticeship Committee and the Local 24 Safety Representative.
He was appointed by IUEC General President Frank Christensen to the ASME A17.1 Emergency Operations Committee in 2020 and the Hoistway Committee in 2021.
Bruce has taught NEIEP’s Beginning Trades Skills (RC100), Installation (RC500) classes and served as the NEIEP Local Administrator.
Bruce and his wife Brandi have been happily married since 1994. They have a son who graduated from Shelton State Community College with an electrical maintenance degree and a daughter who is in her final year of Professional Flight training at Auburn University. Bruce serves his church as one of the sound booth producers, he and Brandi love to travel, he enjoys getting involved in community politics and is a huge Alabama Football fan.
