James Demmel
EIWPF National Coordinator
Intro
TEAM & Model Legislation
Following in his father’s footsteps, Jimmy started in the Elevator trade right out of high school in 1987. He began his career in construction working on Traction and Hydraulic elevators for Westinghouse and Fuji Tec. He completed his four years of NEIEP Training and passed his Mechanics exam, and then furthered his education by completing all available “MTRS” courses. He worked in Construction until an opportunity arose for him to move into Modernization with one of Local #10’s Independent companies. He spent the next several years in Modernization and eventually moved into Maintenance, first on an in-house Government route and then to a street route.
In 1995 Jimmy starting serving his Local as a NEIEP Instructor. He then ran for, and was elected to, Local #10’s Executive Board in 1997, serving as Recording Secretary in 1998 and 1999. In 2000 he was elected as a Local #10 Business Representative and became the Business Manager in 2007. He has also been elected as a Delegate to three IUEC General Conventions and as an Alternate twice.
Jimmy continues to serve the industry that has given so much to his family. He is a proud IUEC member and is one of the two “original” members of Local 10’s JATC. He also served for 20 years as the Recording Secretary for the “Virginia Building & Construction Trades Council” and 15 years as the First Vice President of the “Northern Virginia Area Labor Federation”.
Jimmy started with EIWPF in 2011 as a National Coordinator, he was promoted to Lead National Coordinator and is currently the Assistant National Director.
Outside of the Industry Jimmy has been blessed by marrying a wonderful woman who is both able to tolerate him and keep him grounded. Together they have been truly blessed with three healthy children. Two of which have become the fourth generation of Demmel in the IUEC.
