Kristi Todd
EIWPF National Coordinator
Intro
IUEC Safety program, OSHA 1910 &1926 instructor, Women in the Trades
Kristi started her career in 2006 with the International Union of Elevator Constructors (IUEC) Local 25 Denver, Colorado. Kristi completed her National Elevator Industry Educational Program (NEIEP) courses and passed her Mechanic’s Exam in 2010. She enjoyed seeing the visual progress of constructing elevators and getting them ready to turn over to the public. During Modernization she enjoyed the challenge of making the old work with the new. Finally in Service she enjoyed the challenge of troubleshooting. Kristi was nominated and represented Local 25 as a Delegate to the 32nd National Convention.
Kristi became an instructor with NEIEP in 2015. She completed her Master Instructors certificate through NEIEP and Rogers Williams University. She was trained in many classes such as CPR and Scaffolding. She took her first OSHA class not knowing what her future held.
In 2018, Kristi accepted a position as the Region 6 Area Coordinator with National Elevator Industry Educational Program (NEIEP). During her time as an Area Coordinator, she helped to promote the apprenticeship program through recruitments, working with the apprentices, instructors, locals, and Joint Apprenticeship Committees. Kristi likes to share her story of getting into the trade as a single mother who could barely afford to pay her bills to getting an education through the apprenticeship program and become a mechanic with a career. She wanted to let others know about the amazing opportunities we have as Elevator Constructors. During her time with NEIEP she became a member of the Rigging and Signaling team who would travel to locals and administer the Level 1 and 2 exams.
Kristi was appointed as a member of the Labor Management Safety Committee by General President Frank Christensen. She does data collection to help pinpoint the areas that need to be focused on to prevent future injuries or fatalities. One question she asks is “What is your “why” for working safely?” She wants to help promote a culture where safety becomes muscle memory. One more death or injury is too many.
In May of 2023, Kristi joined EIWPF as a National Coordinator. She is part of the OSHA teams as an authorized outreach instructor for General Industry and Construction. She enjoys creating a connection with the students as they learn about navigating the OSHA standards. Kristi is an authorized trainer for Disaster Response and Confined Spaces. She is an instructor for Mental Health First Aid. Kristi believes that if teaching MHFA helps even one person that it has been worth it. In 2023 Kristi became a Qualified Elevator Inspector through QEITF.
Kristi likes to spend her time outdoors with her dog when she’s not working. Hiking and paddleboarding are some of her favorites. She loves trying new food and going on adventures to new places. Her son is an apprentice and recently completed his dream of getting his private pilot’s license.
