Mike Janca started his career with the International Union of Elevator Constructors, Local 85 in Lansing, Michigan in 1985 starting work with Detroit Elevator, following in his father’s footsteps and being a second generation Elevator Constructor. He completed the National Elevator Industry Educational Program and passed his Mechanic’s exam in 1989.
Mike has held many elected positions within Local 85 including President, Trustee, Executive Board Member and most recently, Business Manager of Local 85 which he held for 6 years before being appointed to EIWPF. He is the Chairman of the Local 85 Safety Committee, Chairman of the Local 85 Joint Apprenticeship Committee, holds a State of Michigan Journeyman’s License, State of Michigan Contractor’s License and a City of Detroit Journeyman’s License.
While Mike was the Business Manager for Local 85 he held many other positions including instructing NEIEP classes which involved going to the many NEIEP workshops and becoming a certified welding instructor, CPR, OSHA, Rigging & Signaling, Forklift and Aerial Lift and Scaffolding Instructor. He is a QEITF Instructor, also the Chairman of the Elevator State Safety Board in Michigan for the past 6 years, a member of the Michigan Building Trades Executive Board, is a member on the ASME A17 Existing Installations Committee and the ASME A17 Maintenance, Repair and Replacement Committee. He has worked with Michigan AHJ on model Legislation in Michigan and Code Adoption. Working with members of Local 85, Local 36 and Local 44, not to mention a few other Locals nearby and their members looking to get a State of Michigan Journeyman’s License. Mike will work to help guide, prepare, and mentor the apprentices and mechanics for success.
